At the General Assembly, held on October 17, 2023, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atanas Georgiev was unanimously elected by 54 delegates for a second term as Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of the Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski". Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atanas Georgiev was the only candidate for Dean in the faculty's reporting-election meeting. In his report to the General Assembly, Assoc. Prof. Georgiev noted that the successes for the 2019-2023 mandate have been achieved due to the hard and dedicated work of the entire community of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atanas Georgiev is a graduate of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, graduating consecutively with a bachelor's degree ("Economics", 2004), and master's degrees ("Finance and Banking" and "Energy Economics and Management" - 2007 and 2008) and a PhD - with a dissertation on the topic "The institutional independence of the national energy regulator in Bulgaria" - in 2016. As a student, Assoc. Prof. Georgiev chaired the student organization "Business Club" in the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, and subsequently, he was the chairman of the Board of the Association of Graduates of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (FEBA Alumni Club).

Since 2005, he has been teaching part-time, and since 2007 - as a full-time assistant in the Department of "Economics and Management by Sectors", where he has been scientific secretary, Director of the Master's program "Energy Markets and Services" and Head of Department (since 2018, so far). His scientific interests are in the field of energy economics and regulation of utility services, he is the author of 2 books and over 40 scientific publications, as well as the scientific supervisor of over 70 master's theses in this field. In 2019, he was elected Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration and a member of the Academic Council.

Assoc. Prof. Georgiev also visited a number of specializations at leading institutions: LEAP program at Babson College (Boston, USA), IVLP/Global Energy Security of the US State Department (DC, NY, OK, CA, WA), Generation Next at Rossotrudnichestvo, courses on "Pricing" and "Benchmarking" at Public Utility Research Center (University of Florida, USA), Energy School at Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy, Energy Law at Florence School of Regulation (European University Institute - Italy), as well as training on Energy Security at Masaryk University (Czech Republic), etc.

He also teaches as a guest lecturer in the energy diplomacy courses of the Diplomatic Institute under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria and has been a guest lecturer at a number of universities, including the University of Cologne (Germany), 9 universities in Ukraine under the project of the Diplomatic Institute and University of Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina).

He is the coordinator and Head of several scientific and educational projects carried out at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration in partnership with other organizations (twinning project SCHOLARNET under the "European Scientific Networks" program, JRC-funded project, DASUN - funded by ESF, etc.). Participates in the implementation of university projects funded by the EC: Transform4Europe, INNOAIR, COP21:RIPPLES, etc.

Assoc. Prof. Georgiev participates in the management of a number of organizations: member of the Board of Directors of the National Committee of Bulgaria in the World Energy Council; member of the Board of Directors of Industrial Cluster "Electromobili"; vice-chairman of the Management Board in the Innovation, Digitalization and New Technologies Council at the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, member of the Control Board at the FEB Foundation. He represents Sofia University in the UN SDSN Black Sea Leadership Council. In December 2022, he was elected an independent member of the Supervisory Board at UniCredit BulBank AD after approval by the banking supervision of the ECB and BNB.

He is a member of international and national organizations such as the International Association for Energy Economics, International Facility Management Association, Association of Bulgarian Leaders and Entrepreneurs (ABLE), etc.

Outside the University, Prof. Georgiev also worked as a consultant on energy restructuring in Economics (2005-2009) and in "Public Services" (from 2010 until now). Part of the team of the Controlling Manager in the EC case – DG Competition AT.39767 BEH Electricity (2016-2021). He is the publisher and editor-in-chief of the specialized magazines "Utilities" and "Facilities".
