Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atanas Georgiev - Head of the Energy Master's Program at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski "and his doctoral student Kaloyan Staykov, who is a senior economist at the Institute for Market Economics, lectured on energy economics, energy regulation and energy law in a three-day training organized in partnership between the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) and the Supreme Administrative Court of Appeal (SAC) in the period 8-10 April 2019 in St. Petersburg Hotel, Plovdiv.

The subject of the training was "Energy - National and European Law. Energy Policies and Acts". The training team included also international speakers - Kaisa Huhta, PhD in Energy Law at the University of East Finland (UEF), and Prof. Ruven Fleming of the University of Groningen.

The training program has been developed in the framework of Activity 1 "Innovative model of specialized attendance training in the field of administrative justice" under the project "Innovative products and services in the training provided by NIJ" and is intended for judges and court assistants from the administrative courts, as well as for judges from the other courts.

 

The focus of the training curriculum is on the policy and implementation of EU energy policies. Presentations during the training included: the progress made in the natural and liquefied gas diversification process, the harmonisation of legislation as well as the requirements of the Third Liberalisation Package and the Clean Energy for All Europeans Package. During the seminar, the perspectives and trends in the European legislation and the fundamental principles of protecting the national energy security and the independence of supply were presented.
