FMI launches joint doctoral school with the University of Aizu (Japan)

On August 25, 2025, the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics (FMI) at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” launched a joint doctoral school with the University of Aizu, Japan. The initiative includes early-career researchers who wish to learn about and discuss key ideas in mathematical modeling, artificial intelligence, and data analysis – all core areas of essential importance for addressing complex real-world problems in science and technology.

The joint doctoral school is held in two parts – the last week of August in Sofia and from September 21 to 27 at the University of Aizu (Fukushima, Japan). The venue in Sofia is the new research complex – the Center for Excellence “Universities for Science, Informatics, and Technology in e-Society” (UNITE), located behind the FMI building, on the Lozenets campus.
