The Master’s program in Organizational psychology and Cross-cultural Management in English is designed to prepare professionals to explore and analyze organizational processes and behavior in the context of intercultural interaction and cooperation. The preparation is carried out in the following problem areas that are fundamental to modern organizations: Cross-cultural communication, cross-cultural work and organizational psychology, conflict and crisis management, organizational development and consulting, human resources management, mentoring and coaching, team management and development, virtual work and organization.

Educational objectives

Education in the Master’s program in Organizational Psychology and Cross-cultural Management is carried out in English language and it provides knowledge and skills in the field of organizational psychology, taking into account the cross-cultural perspective in the study of human behavior in organizations and meeting the requirements of cross-cultural competence and tolerance in human resources development. The students develop knowledge and skills for working in a cross-cultural organizational environment and for application of work and organizational psychology achievements to organizational development and human resources management.

The third and fourth semesters are dedicated to studying of the courses with predominantly applied orientation and to preparation related to writing the master’s thesis.

The Master’s program completion requires master’s thesis defense. The master’s thesis is a theoretical and empirical research in a scientific field selected by the student, which is implemented under the direction of a supervisor. The defense of the master’s thesis takes place after completion of the fourth semester, in front of a state examination committee.

Professional Qualifications

The Master’s program develops knowledge and skills necessary for management and development of the “human” side of modern organizations, taking into account the role of cultural and individual differences in values, motivation and behavior of employees. Students acquire skills in cross-cultural communication, crisis and conflict management, emotional intelligence and intercultural sensitivity and develop competencies in applied areas significant to the modern organizations such as: coaching and leadership development, team management and development, organizational development and consulting, strategic management and human resources management.

The graduates receive the qualification “master” and acquire diagnostics and consulting practice rights.

Professional Realization

The graduates of the Master’s program could pursue a successful and fulfilling career as organizational psychologists, organizational consultants, and experts in organizational development and human resources management in national and international organizations. They can work as experts and trainers, organizational consultants, organizational diagnostics and organizational development specialists, as well as managers in organizations in the public and private sectors.

Terms of admission

The applicants should have earned a bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree after secondary education in accredited higher education institutions in Bulgaria or abroad, with a speciality in the following fields of higher education: Social, economic and legal sciences, pedagogical sciences and humanities.

Applicants who have earned a bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree in another speciality are also welcome, provided that they work under an employment/civil contract as specialists/consultants in the field of human resources, management, training and consulting of organizations. These applicants should submit, along with the other requested documents, a certificate issued by the organization where they work stating their position and length of service.

Persons who have graduated abroad can apply for the program when their course of studies is three years (180 credits).

Minimum average grade from the diploma: Good.

The applicants should submit a Curriculum Vitae and a document certifying their written and spoken command of English and they must attend an interview, which is assessed with “Yes” or “No”.

The interviewers take into account the applicants’ communication skills, culture of expression, and motivation for admission to the master’s program, as well as their previous experience.

The ranking, provided that they have received a “Yes” at the interview, is based on the grade from the diploma for the completed bachelor’s degree or master’s degree, formed as the arithmetic mean of the average semestrial grades and the grades from the state final examinations.
