On December 20, Ms. Vyara Koleva, an expert with 28 years of experience in environmental and climate change policies, delivered a guest lecture to students of the Master’s Programme „Customs and Tax Control“, headed by Assoc. Prof. Dr Tsvetan Madanski. The lecture was held as part of the course „Customs Control“.

The challenges related to legally defined obligations and stricter environmental regulations highlighted for students the lack of alternatives to green transformation and the need to develop environmental education within corporate culture.

The role-playing exercise “Import of Waste Without Notification” energized the audience and reinforced the newly acquired knowledge.

Numerous examples from professional experience at local and regional levels, project work in the field of environment and climate change, as well as consulting for large and medium-sized enterprises, outlined the points of interaction between the Customs Agency and the Regional Inspectorates of Environment and Water, which have different but complementary functions.

The lecture enhanced students’ knowledge both in terms of ensuring complete documentation—customs and environmental—and in understanding that joint control increases the effectiveness of state regulation in import/export oversight, the collection of public revenues, and environmental protection.
