On October 16, the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (FEBA) Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atanas Georgiev was the moderator of the panel "The Green Deal and the Peculiarities of the Bulgarian Energy Transition" at the international conference "The European Green Deal after COVID-19 and the Bulgarian Energy Transition" organized by the Energy Management Institute (EMI) in cooperation with the Diplomatic Institute under the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria and together with the National Energy Chamber and the Greek Institute for Energy in Southeast Europe (IENE).

The participants in the panel discussed what changes are forthcoming in connection with the new Green Deal and what will be its "price" at European and national level. The program focused on the need for a fair energy transition and its specifics for Bulgaria, the important challenges that need to be addressed and the necessary measures for the transition to be successful.

The conference was attended by representatives of Bulgarian and European institutions, associations and companies. The first panel focused on European and regional aspects of policy in this area. The second panel mainly addressed electrification as the backbone of the Green Deal (digitalization, big data, energy storage, retail market liberalization, network development and price levels - their role in carbon neutrality), aspects related to energy efficiency, etc. The third panel, moderated by Assoc. Prof. Atanas Georgiev, was held in the form of a Round Table and focused specifically on the main problems of energy development in Bulgaria in the context of the European and regional picture. The main topics were coal mining, energy poverty, the role of natural gas, regional initiatives in Bulgaria, the fair energy transition, etc.
