The Faculty of Biology successfully continues work on the AgroLabs Project

Under the "Balkans - Mediterranean 2014-2020 Transnational Cooperation Program", the Faculty of Biology at Sofia University, Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection, won and started work on the implementation of the "AgroFood Innovation Clusters" Project, with the acronym: "AgroLabs".

The AgroLabs Project brings together eight project partners from four countries - Greece, Cyprus, Bulgaria and Albania, included in the Balkan – Mediterranean program, and is targeted at the regions of Central Macedonia in Greece (Imathia), Cyprus (Lemesos), Bulgaria (Blagoevgrad-Razlog) and Albania (Fier).

The AgroLabs Project aims at fostering the production and distribution of innovative agro-food products of the Balkan-Med area by organising local value chains, supporting SMEs and producers in their development projects and creating new markets for the products.

Several Project Partners meetings have been held so far. In September, 2017 at the Technological Educational Institute of Athens, Greece (Lead Partner) the first Kick–Off meeting took place, and on 29 - 30th March, 2018 the second Project Partners meeting was held in Limasol.

Third meeting 2018

The 3rd Project Partners meeting of the AgroLabs Project, organized by the Agricultural University of Tirana, Albania, was held in Tirana, Albania 22 -23rd November, 2018. During the meeting partners discussed the current situation of the project’s implementation, its progress and results and the use of the MIS system.

On 23rd November, 2018 The AgroLabs Innovation Summit, organized by the Municipality of Fier (partner on the project) in the implementation of the “Agrofood Innovation Clusters” (AgroLabs) of the Interreg BALKAN-MED 2014-2020 Project was held..

The AgroLabs Innovation Summit involved key stakeholders from each region. The aim of the Summit organization was the promotion of transnational exchange and networking, discussion of challenges and development of common solutions and strategies related to the growth of the agro-food sector in the Balkan-Med region.

Upcoming events are to take place in April, 2019. The Municipality of Razlog as a partner on the project “Agrolabs” will host the 4th meeting of the partners. The next meeting will take place in Veria, a town in Macedonia, Northern Greece.
