The GATE Institute is seeking to appoint Researchers in 3D City Modeling, Analysis and Simulation who will be involved in the GATE City Digital Twin project. It is a large interdisciplinary flagship project aiming to develop a digital twin platform for designing, testing, applying and servicing the entire lifecycle of the built environment. An ultimate goal of the projects is to go beyond digital replicas and visualizations to explore the full potential of integrating data from all stages of urban development and thus push the applications of urban modelling, simulation, analysis and visualization.

Your responsibilities
Common:
- Involved in all phases of the numerical simulations;
- Research and develop numerical simulations at different scales;
- Integrate the results from numerical simulations in 3D city models;
- Keep up-to-date with the research environment (for example, funding bodies) and contribute to grant applications;
- Conduct self-initiated research, maintain an awareness of technical literature in assigned areas, publish research results in peer-reviewed scientific or technical journals, and present results at external conferences, seminars, and/or technical meetings;
- Engage in appropriate training and development opportunities as required by the Research Group Leader or GATE Institute;
- Scientific paper writing;
- Carry out administrative work within the research projects as necessary;
- Supervise and mentor interns, master, and PhD students in related research projects;
- Communicate results and ideas to key decision-makers;
- Assist in project planning and task estimation;
One or more of the following responsibilities:
- Link domain-specific simulation programs to each other to support rapid prototyping, integrated whole-system level analysis, and model use during operations;
- Developing applications for visualization of simulation data in augmented reality.
Requirements:
- A PhD Degree in computer science, application informatics, engineering, or in a related discipline or a Master’s Degree plus a minimum of 7 years of industry-based relevant research experience;
- Prior experience with GIS;
- Experience in existing simulation modelling software such as WRF, ENVI-met, etc.;
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, C++, R, and others;
- Experience participating in research projects involving a wide variety of constituents and stakeholders;
- A scientific contribution through original research that extends the frontier of knowledge by developing a body of work, innovation or application, evidenced by publications, software output, technology transfers etc.;
- Proven ability in critical analysis, evaluation and synthesis of new and complex ideas;
- Advanced communication, presentation and influencing skills to be able to explain the value of their research to the research community;
- Proven ability to find ways to create value and deliver results by working both independently and as part of a team with professionals at all levels and of various disciplines.
- Fluent English is a must.
