Ulrike Freitag, a Professor in Middle East and Islamic Studies at Freie Universität Berlin and Director of the Leibnitz Zentrum Moderner Orient (ZMO), Berlin, brought to the fore data and new findings from her research on Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. She foregrounded the transregional entanglements between Saudi Arabia and South Asia through the Indian Ocean.
