16.06.2022
On the evening of the 50th anniversary of the first UN Conference on Human Environment (Stockholm, 1972) the challenges in sustainable development are numerous but each one of us can play a role in achieving the goals. The UN Global Sustainable Goals (2015 - 2030) set out the ambitious target to lead on the sustainable governance of the planet including the economic, social and environmental targets in a more balanced way whilst directing societies toward a sustainable and just future. An online discussion will be held on 22 June, 2022 on: “The Role of Academia in Achieving the UN Global Sustainable Goals”.
The academic community plays a significant role in achieving the Goals. It participates actively in defining smart and achievable goals based on scientific research during the consultation phase that led to the Sustainable Plan 2030. The contribution of the scientists is key in developing sustainable solutions and establishing and testing relevant instruments that would assist in responding to the challenges of the new goals.
The objectives of the discussion are as follows:
- To share international and national good practices regarding the role of the academic community in achieving the UNSDGs by engaging different stakeholders on a local level.
- To hear the voice of business and further promote the concept of share value creation for the benefit of the society and the planet.
