Economics and finance (English programme)

NB: Please be aware that the majority of the courses are taught in Bulgarian and there are additional courses taught in English and French.

The Bachelor's degree in Economics and Finance (English programme) follows high international standards. Some courses are developed in collaboration with colleagues from leading English and American universities. Many courses are taught in English by top university staff in academia and practice.

The aim of the BA programme is to introduce students to the fundamentals of economic and financial theory and to acquire the knowledge and skills of applied economic, financial and statistical analysis. During their studies, students also acquire specific knowledge and skills in accounting, insurance, entrepreneurship and innovation, marketing, law and management.

Graduates with the professional qualification “Economist and Financialist” can successfully work in business organizations, state institutions at local and regional level, state administration, non-profit organizations, financial institutions, etc. They could continue their education in the master’s programmes of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration or other educational institutions in the country as well as abroad.

Please note that you must prove your language skills and you need min level B2 in Common European Framework. FEBA accepts the following certificates:

  • Cambridge English - Proficiency (CPE), Advanced (CAE), First (FCE); IELTS; Oxford Test of English;
  • TOEFL IBT over 80 points;
  • TOEFL CBT over 200 points.

Professional competences:

After completing the training The Bachelor in Economics and Finance:

  • will know the main achievements of economic and financial theory and practice, statistics and econometrics, quantitative methods, accounting, insurance, entrepreneurship, law and economic history.
  • will be able to use the knowledge acquired in analyzing and forecasting the main economic and financial processes, based on a variety of quantitative and qualitative research methods.
  • will be able to adapt quickly to specific jobs requiring economic and financial skills and to work in a team.
  • will be able to independently build on and develop the basic knowledge and skills acquired in the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration.

Professional realization:

Graduates with the qualification “Economist and Financialist” can successfully work in business organizations, state institutions at local and regional level, state administration, in non-profit organizations, in financial institutions, as teachers in secondary schools with economic and/or financial profile, etc. They could continue their education in the master’s programmes of the Faculty of Economics or other.

Economics and finance (French programme)

The BA in Economics and Finance (French programme) prepares highly qualified specialists with a solid fundamental background for the needs of economic and financial practice, public administration and government. The aim of the programme is to introduce students to the fundamentals of economic and financial theory and to acquire knowledge and skills in applied economic, financial and statistical analysis.

The Bachelor's degree programme in Economics and Finance (French programme) is open to all applicants who have completed secondary education and are proficient in French. The programme is based on high international standards. Some of the courses are developed in collaboration with colleagues from leading French universities and are taught in French by Bulgarian and French lecturers.

The duration of the studies is 4 years (eight semesters) and covers compulsory, compulsory-elective, free elective and optional training, organized in the form of lectures and seminars. Many of these are conducted in French, including by guest lecturers.

There are examinations and ongoing assessments, and many of the courses include practical problem-solving, case studies, development and defence of course projects, etc. The BA degree finishes with passing a state examination.

IMPORTANT: Under certain conditions (additional compulsory-elective training), according to the double graduation agreements between Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” and University of Lile and Poitiers, students have the possibility to obtain a French diploma in Economics and Management.
