From May 17 to 19, 2024, the forty-ninth edition of the National Student Mathematics Olympiad (NSOM 2024) took place in Burgas. The host of the Olympiad was Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski". The event was organized by the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics with the assistance of the Burgas branch of Sofia University, the "FMI Innovations and Education" Foundation, the "Bulgaria" Hotel Complex, and the Municipality of Burgas.

Sofia University Team – First Place among Higher Education Institutions in Group B
More than 100 students from 14 higher education institutions across the country participated in the Olympiad, divided into three groups based on their fields of study.
Group A comprised students from the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics, who once again won numerous individual and team awards.
Traditionally, Group B includes students from the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, but this year, for the first time, a student from the Geospatial Systems and Technologies program of the Faculty of Geology and Geography was included in the university’s team.
The Sofia University team won two gold, three silver, and two bronze medals in Group B, securing first place in the team rankings and first place among higher education institutions.
It should be noted that the competition in Group B was extremely intense this year. There were 41 competitors from Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski", the University of National and World Economy, the University of Economics - Varna, Plovdiv University, Shumen University, the University of Forestry, and the Academy of the Ministry of Interior, divided into eight teams.

Petya Chilikova from the Faculty of Geology and Geography - Silver Medal
Evgeni Kirilov from the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration won the competition with a gold medal. Katya Nikolova from the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration secured second place and a gold medal. Silver medalists included Petya Chilikova from the Faculty of Geology and Geography, Alena Onishchenko from the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, and Samuel Mladenov from the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, while Iveta Aneva and Slavena Dudrenova won bronze medals.
The students from both faculties were prepared and led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Veselin Gushev, Assist. Prof. Vaya Rakidzi, and Assist. Prof. Danail Gushev.
Once again, this year, Sofia University professors participated in the Olympiad's jury, including Prof. Geno Nikolov, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Parvan Parvanov, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Asen Bozhilov, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ivan Gadjev, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Veselin Gushev, and Assist. Prof. Emiliyan Rogachev from the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics.
