On 21 March 2019 at the Economic Faculty of the University of Nis a meeting was held between the Spectrum Club Chairperson, Lilyana Georgieva, a student in the Accounting and Audit Master's Program at the Faculty of Economics and the Management Board of the "Nova" Student Association. The discussion at the meeting focused on some good practices and opportunities for cooperation.
The Nova Association was founded 5 years ago and has been enjoying an exceptional interest: at present, there are about 200 members who are studying at the Faculty of Economics. Its main activity is the organization of student conferences, scientific symposia, career forums, as well as charity events.
In February, Lilyana Georgieva participated in DAIMMUN'19 (Diplomatic Academy Ministerial Model United Nations) at the invitation of the organizers. The conference took place from 11 to 15 February 2019 in the city of Moscow.
The opening of DAIMMUN'19 took place at the headquarters of the international media agency "Russia Today" (RIA Novosti). The event was opened by Diana Antonova, Secretary General of the UN Model Organization at the Diplomatic Academy and the following guests made their welcome addresses:
- Piotr Ilichev (Director of the Department of International Organizations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation);
- Vladimir Kuznetsov (Director of the United Nations Information Centre in Moscow);
- Prof. Oleg Ivanov (Vice Rector of Research and Professor at the Diplomatic Academy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation);
- Vinay Patrick Saldanha (Director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV / AIDS for Europe and Central Asia);
- Roman Chukov (Chairman of the Board of the "Centre for Promotion of International Initiatives" );
- Natalia Maslakova-Klauberg (Head of the Center for Public Diplomacy, Intercultural Dialogue and Religions at the Diplomatic Academy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of RF);
- Victoria Karslieva (leading expert at the A.M. Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund);
- Dmitry Sidorov (Leader of DAIMMUN and university Lecturer).
DAIMMUN'19 included: a General Assembly (in Russian), an International Court of Justice (in Russian), a Security Council (in English), a Human Rights Council (in English), a Women's Rights Committee (in French), a UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (CEPAL) (in Spanish), media.
Liliana V. Georgieva joined the Human Rights Council as Delegate of the Republic of Cuba. The themes on the agenda were: Freedom of religion and The promotion and protection of the right to privacy in the digital age, including the responsibility of business enterprises in this regard.
The conference was extremely dynamic and intensive: the sessions were full-day, followed by a variety of entertainment events. Following these, all delegates continued their work on drafts of resolutions, suggestions for corrections, and preparation for debates. On the last day, each of the bodies presented the adopted resolution containing recommendations on the agenda.
The media were constantly present at the event and each of them was very active, keeping close track of the activities going on in every committee and asking the delegates to share their personal opinions. The event included participants from Spain, Azerbaijan, Sudan, Colombia, Argentina, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Great Britain, France, Congo, Ukraine and other countries.
