DATABASES IN MANAGEMENT

Course content

Databases (DB) and technology "database" play a major role in the use of computers. Furthermore, databases play a critical role in almost all areas where computers are used, including business, economy, business administration, law, education and many other areas. Along with clarifying the formal definitions of the basic concepts students are introduced to a wide range of languages ​​and operators to work with DBMS, which ensures immediate application of what they have learned. The studied area includes Oracle DBMS and tools of Microsoft.

 

Course aim
Upon completion of the course students acquire knowledge of the basic concepts of modern relational systems, database management system (DBMS) - diagrams, tables, views, indexes, sequences, transactions and their isolation. In detail are studied Data Manipulation language (DML), Data Definition Language (DDL) and Data Control Language (DCL).. The main concepts of distributed DBMS are studied. The course examines the introductory concepts in the procedural language extension and data base triggers. The course also includes the methods for database design, the theory and practice of normalization of the tables. The lectures are illustrated with numerous examples and experiments using available powerful relational database online during the lecture. The role of the seminars is to expand those skills and enable practical work with various software tools and DBMS. Students learn to use operators of SQL; to work with DBMS, understand the technology of transactions, to acquire knowledge and skills in the design and implementation of specific database.

 

Intended learning outcomes

Students should:

- Know SQL Data Manipulation language;

- Basic principles behind relational data base design;

- Database data retrieval in business;

- Saving, changing and deleting data in database.
