EXCHANGE STUDENTS

General information

The academic year starts on 1 October. It is divided into two semesters - each 15 weeks long. The winter semester begins on 1 October and ends in the fourth week of January and is followed by an examination session. The summer semester starts in the fourth week of February and ends in mid-June and is followed by an examination session until the first week of July.

Instruction is conducted in the form of lectures and seminars. Lectures are attended by the whole stream of students, while seminars take place in small groups and are usually led by assistant professors / senior students under the strict guidance of the principal lecturer.

Exams are graded according to the Bulgarian system of grading but the European credit transfer system is also applied.

Bulgaria’s grading system is numeric:

2 – poor, 3 – sufficient, 4 – good, 5 – very good, 6 – excellent.

2 is lowest on scale and 6 is the highest; 3 is the lowest passing grade.

The academic hour starts at 15 minutes past the hour and lasts 45 minutes. It is followed by 15 minute break.
