In the spirit of the National Enlighteners’ Day, the research project SCHOLARNET was officially launched. The project in the frame of National Scientific Program “European Research Networks” will be performed by the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at the Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski with project partners Universite de Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines and Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen - Nürnberg.

The public event was attended by Prof. Anastas Gerdjikov - Rector of the Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski, Mrs. Karina Angelieva - Deputy Minister of Education and Science, and project partners. The online event was hosted by the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business administration at the Sofia University – Assoc. Prof. Atanas Georgiev, who is also the SCHOLARNET Project leader.
Prof. Gerdjikov presented the SCHOLARNET project in the context of the Sofia University strategic goals for strengthening the research capacity and enlarge and maintenance steady international partnerships with leading scientific institutes. The Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Mrs. Karina Angelieva, presented the national scientific program “European Research Networks” and acknowledged the importance of initiatives related to the modernization and strengthening of the capacity of higher educational institutes. Mrs. Angelieva shared her satisfaction that projects in the field of humanities are being granted, which will support a better understanding and analysis of various social processes.

“The project is relevant to the European policies.” – it was beginning of the brief statement of Prof. Albena Vutsova. She underlined result-oriented project approach and its synergy with other European and national programs –Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe; Erasmus+, and the National Program “Young Scientists”. Assoc. Prof. Todor Yalamov – a Deputy Dean presented the main areas in which economics and business research is being developed by the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration. Partners from foreign universities participated in the official event as well. Prof. Stella Raytcheva from the Universite de Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines shared her satisfaction that the project will enlarge a lingterm partnership with the Sofia University.

Leading goal of the SCHOLARNET project is the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at the Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski to become a national reference research center in the field of economics and management research, as well as to contribute to the implementation of the objectives of the Innovation Strategy for Smart Specialization of the Republic of Bulgaria 2014 - 2020. The project sets ambitious goals towards young scholars. A PhD students’ panel session will be organized at the end of November as part of the international research conference “Just and SMART Transitions: New Deals, Markets and Governance”. Some of discussing topics include the green deal, the economy 4.0 transition, innovations in the public sector. The conference also envisages a special forum dedicated to some of the tasks of the project. The first issue of a new scientific journal “Economic Boundaries and Transformations” will be published by the end of the year.
