Course content

The course provides a more comprehensive and thorough understanding of the economic methodology in comparison to most textbooks in economics. It reveals the integrity of the economic way of thinking in two respects. The first one relates to the internal unity of postulates, principles and basic models which make up the economic scheme of interpretation of social reality. The other aspect considers the possibility of the economic way of thinking to explain fundamental questions of human behavior, to create universal schemes explaining the actions and interactions of individuals in different spheres of social life, in different historical times and conditions.

 

Course aim

To present key social issues in a way which enables us to establish the link between theoretical assumptions, empirical facts and argumentation based recommendations for individual, collective and political decisions.

 

Intended learning outcomes

Students should:

- Know the postulates of economic way of thinking;

- Know the principles of the economic way of thinking;

- Be able to apply the economic way of thinking in the understanding and analysis of real problems related to family, external effects, property rights, crime and politics;

- Be able to develop positive thinking about what needs to be rational decisions in important life situations;

- Understand and predict the behavior of other people;

- Be able to reject widespread understanding by distinguishing between solid economic arguments and media and political deceptions.
