To be eligible for admission to Master’s program in Plant Biotechnologies, applicants must have completed a bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields: Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, Biology and Chemistry, Geography and Biology, Medicine, Agricultural Sciences, Veterinary Medicine. Applicants should have a good command of English – written and spoken.

Master’s program „Plant Biotechnologies“ offers its students a thorough preparation and profound knowledge in the wider aspects of biotechnology, focusing on the application of modern study and skills acquired from various biological disciplines. Certified Masters acquire knowledge and practical skills to apply classical and new technologies in the field of phytophysiology, molecular biology and biochemical practice; for preparing and implementing the scientific tasks and projects.

The learning process is focused on the study and discussion of the essence, principles and use of plant cell cultures, in vitro propagation and regeneration, mutagenesis and transformation methods. Important scientific directions of the Master’s program include: plant pathology and related biological, physiological and biochemical response; study of programmed cell death in model systems of in vitro cultivated plants and microalgae; biologically active substances in the tissue and cell cultures of valuable medicinal plants.

Certified Masters acquire knowledge and skills to work with the main types of in vitro cultures and their application; to study the spectrum of the synthesized secondary metabolites as well as the changes in their physiology-biochemical activity due to biotic and abiotic stress. Masters acquire professional competence for: clonal micropropagation of plants; in vitro propagation of medicinal plants, study of biological activity and synthesis of biologically active substances; cultivation of microalgae and knowledge of characteristics; application of recombinant DNA technology

Students who received the degree Master of Plant Biotechnologies can continue their study in the scientific degree “PhD” at the Faculty of Biology or at the other scientific departments. They can find a professional realization as teachers, experts or specialists in various research institutes, universities and the productive sector (companies and organizations relevant to the operation of the plant resources, plant biotechnology, pharmacy, ecophysiology, etc.).
