On June 17 until June 23, the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Sofia University organized a Research Methods Summer School which took place at Sofia University’s learning and research centre, "Prof. Tsv. Bonchev", in Gyulechitsa, Rila.

Participants in the school were professors, doctoral students, students completing their diploma theses and Data Science experts. Their aim was to build upon and expand their knowledge and skills in doing research.

Among the lecturers were Assoc. Prof. Angel Marchev, Jr. and Prof. Angel Marchev Sr. – academics at the University of National and World Economy, Assoc. Prof. Alexander Efremov and Petyr Nikolov from the Technical University – Sofia, Assoc. Prof. Mladen Savov, Assoc. Prof. Boryana Bogdanova, Gloriya Hristova, Assoc. Prof. Kaloyan Haralampiev from Sofia University, Vladimir Vasilev, Demir Tonchev, Martin Martinov and Pavel Nikolov prof the industry sector.

 

The school`s program included theoretical lectures on cybernetics for researching complex systems with feedback, introduction to probabilities and Bayes paradigms and practical workshops focused on different environments for developing Data Science solutions as Jupyter Notebook with Python, R Studio and Orange.

 

During the school, each of the teams had the opportunity to work together on one of three real cases from different spheres. In the spirit of “Together vs the challenges” participants successfully created models that could be employed in cryptocurrency predictions, the factor analysis of the HR industry as well as in the designing of recommendation systems in the sphere of E-Commerce.
