The Master’s programme is meant to acquaint the students with the properties of radioactive substances, the methods for measurement of ionization radiation, the synthesis, analysis and application of radionuclides and labeled compounds, and the chemical and physical problems, related to the exploitation of nuclear power reactors and other nuclear installations. The laboratory practice is aiming to develop specific skills of the students to perform chemical operations with open radioactive sources and to develop their abilities to solve particular problems.

The Masters of radiochemistry and radioecology need to know deeply the fundamentals of the radiochemistry, metrology and dosimetry, nuclear methods for analysis, radioecology, chemical problems of the nuclear energetics and the production and application of radioisotopes and labeled compounds.

The Masters of radiochemistry and radioecology are expected to have the specific skills to work with sealed and opened radioactive sources, to perform radiation monitoring and risk assessment in activities with ionizing radiation, to perform decontamination.

The specialists with higher education with qualification MASTER OF NUCLEAR CHEMISTRY – Radiochemistry and radioecology at the professional field “Chemical sciences” are intended to perform research, technologically-inventive, analytical and production activities in the following fields:

- Scientific and applied investigations in the fields of radiochemistry, radioecology, application of radioisotopes and labeled compounds in chemistry, biology, physics, medicine, agriculture sciences, geology and technical sciences.

- Analytical activities: development, improvement, adaptation and application of new and existing methods for analysis and characterization of radioactive isotopes and labeled compounds in natural and technogenic products.

- Production activities in the synthesis and all the fields of application of radioisotopes and labeled compounds and in the nuclear energetics.

The Masters of radiochemistry and radioecology are intended to work in the: nuclear energetics, management, processing and storage of radioactive wastes, production of radioisotopes and labeled compounds, environmental monitoring and protection, in all fields of medicine, agricultural sciences and industry, where are used or measured radionuclides, in scientific and governmental institutes and laboratories, in departments and institutions performing environmental monitoring and protection, in higher schools etc.

The Master programme is directed to students with Bachelor degree in Chemistry, Chemical Technologies, Metallurgy, Chemistry and Physics, Chemistry and Informatics, Chemistry and Biology, Physics, Geology and Nuclear engineering.

Since 2016, Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy has been a member of the European Network on Nuclear and Radiochemistry Education and Training.
