Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” comes first in 23 out of 27 subjects taught to students in the seventh consecutive edition of the Rating System of the High Academic Institutions in Bulgaria which included updated information for 2017. Alma mater is positioned first in the subjects of Economics, and Administration and Management. For its first year the University is placed first in Health Care.
The data of the rating system definitely show that Sofia University continues maintain its position of a leader in terms of the quality of its scientific research. It is among the three high academic institutions having the top index in terms of citation of the scientific publications, together with Sofia University of Medicine and the University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy.
The positive trend has been additionally strengthened by the increase of the average ensured income of Sofia University graduates specifically in Informatics and Computer Studies, Mathematics, Economics, Administration and Management, and Political Sciences. Sofia University graduates in Informatics and Computer Studies have kept on being in the country’s top payment positions with an average ensured income of 2 212 levas and an average taxed income of 3 494 levas.
The new rating edition shows the continuing tendency of improving the realization of university graduates on the labour market. According to the 2017 data of the rating system the share of the registered unemployed among the graduates of Bulgarian high academic institutions have gone down for the past 5 years to 2,91 % from 3,38 % for the past year and from more than 4 % for 2013. In this perspective the average unemployment of graduates of Informatics and Computer Studies stays at 0,90 %, and of graduates of Health Care – at 0,30 % which is several times less compared to the country’s average. The share of uninsured graduates for the country has gone down to 21,5 % from more than 23 % for the past year and from about 25 % for 2015. At the same time the share of the employed graduates who for the first 5 years after graduation have been occupying a position of a university graduate has increased to 48,56 % from 47,34 % for the past year. In terms of that index the data of the individual subjects at Sofia University surpass many times the average – for example, in Informatics and Computer Studies it is more than 90%, and in Health Care – more than 87 %. The average ensured income of graduates has been on the increase too reaching 1075 levas compared to 1020 levas for the past year and at levels less than 900 levas for 2013. The data related to Sofia University are in the upper layers and are above the averaged values.
Sofia University’s total data come to prove that the academic level of its graduates is considerably of a higher level than that of the other high academic institutions, and the data of their realization and the scientific achievements of its faculty make it comparable with high academic institutions abroad.
