International economic integration is one of the major and inevitable trends in each country's development process and the whole world. Due to the difficulties in reaching multilateral agreements and the unpredictable global economy fluctuations, free trade agreements (FTAs) have become popular and effective instruments, helping countries integrate more deeply into the world economy and take advantage of the benefits of that integration. Keeping up with the development of world trade, the content of FTAs has been gradually developed from the traditional to the new-generation; expanding from the liberalization of trade in goods, services, and investment to the facilitation of trade and investment; elimination of non-tariff measures; strengthening of intellectual property rights, labor, environment; and even in association with issues of democracy, human rights or counter-terrorism. Therefore, the new-generation FTAs not only open up potential trade and investment opportunities for countries but also make a great contribution to promoting deeper participation in global value chains, reforming administration, and improving the business environment.
Aiming at building and developing a solid academic environment to share experiences, new ideas, and scientific research findings about world economic integration in general and new-generation FTAs in particular, the University of Economics and Business, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-UEB), in collaboration with Friedrich Naumanm Foundation for Freedom in Vietnam (FNF) organize the conference entitled "International Economic Integration: Journey to the New-generation FTAs" expected on 30th September 2022 in Hanoi. This is the 10th in the series of Annual Conference on International Economic Cooperation and Integration (CIECI), which was initiated in 2013 at VNU-UEB. The Conference focuses on discussing the following topics:
- International economic integration: Theoretical and practical issues
- The development of FTAs from the traditional to the new-generation: Theory and practice in different countries
- Participating in the new-generation FTAs: The progress, opportunities, challenges and impacts on countries in the world and Vietnam
- Other topics related to international trade, international investment and international economics.

We welcome experts, researchers, scholars, and practitioners to contribute papers for the Conference on (but not limited to) the following topics:

- Context, trends, strategies and policies to support and develop towards liberalization in trade and investment activities;
- Experience in implementing policies towards free trade and investment in the world and/or in Vietnam;

- The process of joining and implementing FTAs in other countries and/or in Vietnam
- Experience in implementing FTAs in trade and investment related activities in the world and/or in Vietnam;
- Opportunities and challenges of new-generation FTAs for countries and/or with Vietnam;
- Impacts of new-generation FTAs on economic, social and environmental aspects of countries around the world and/or Vietnam (international trade and investment, economic growth, economic structure transformation, the competitiveness of the economy, spillover effects on domestic enterprises, labor, income, employment, inequality, environmental quality, ...).
- Implications for the government and businesses to take advantages of new-generation FTAs, contributing to the country's sustainable socio-economic development goals as well as business goals;
- Other topics related to international trade, international investment, and international economics.
