Educational objectives
The Master's programme “Regional Dimensions of Global Trends - China, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe, 19th-21st Century” is designed for students who have obtained a Bachelor's and/or Master's degree from national and international schools and academies in the humanities and social sciences. Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English. This program is designed for students who have a particular interest in the history and contemporary development of the East Asian region, with a particular focus on China as well as Eastern and Southeastern Europe. In addition, it is designed to explore the international political, economic, and cultural relations between these two regions. The MA programme provides students with the opportunity to specialise in a variety of disciplines, allowing them to specialise in different areas of both research and practice. The aim of the programme is to provide students with the opportunity to acquire comprehensive knowledge and skills that will enhance their career aspirations in the field of East Asian Studies, with a particular focus on China, and on Europe-Asia relations, with a particular focus on the role and importance of East and South-East Europe in these relations.
Professional Qualifications
Upon successful completion of the Programme, the students will have acquired the following skills and competences:
- Acquiring deep insights into concepts and processes related to the understanding of the East Asian societies, particularly understanding on China, as well as processes related to the Eastern and Southeastern Europe as a specific region in which the interests of major geopolitical players intertwine. Special attention will be paid to the current socio-economic, political and cultural processes in these two regions;
- Expanding and deepening the knowledge of students about the cultural, economic and political ties of the countries part of the two regions, as well as their contacts with Europe – in cultural, political and economic terms;
- Understanding the current state and trends of the economic development of China and the Eastern and Southeast European countries in the context of globalization;
- Preparing a master thesis on topical and currently important socio-political, economic or cultural subject. Preparation of thesis aims to develop and reveal student’s analytical abilities and their skills to write and defend their thesis convincing and with a strong and clear arguments;
- Improve their ability to work with different types of documents, original texts and other primary sources.
Professional Realization
The students who have successfully completed the Master Programme "Regional Dimensions of Global Tendencies – China, East and South-East Europe, 19-21st centuries" will be able to realize their professional potential in a variety of sectors, including the media, real economy, and governmental and non-governmental organizations. They will be able to work for companies that operate and conduct trade and economic activity between the two regions, as well as companies that are seeking investment opportunities in Bulgaria and Europe as a whole, as well as companies that are expanding into the Asian markets. Similarly, the number of companies that expand into Asian markets will undoubtedly rise in the years ahead as a result of China's rapid development and expansion
Admission Requirements
- Language competence on level B1/B2 according to the European Framework is required.Candidates will be admitted to the Programme after an interview in English.
