Name of Project: "Model for working with children with cerebral palsy"

The development of the model for working with children with cerebral palsy is funded by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Science, Fund “Scientific Researches”, within the “Young Scientist 2011” competition, and in a partnership with the only one in Bulgaria Specialized Hospital for Post Treatment and Rehabilitation of Children with Cerebral Palsy “St. Sofia”. In the hospital, the implementation of early diagnosis, complex, multistage, polyvalent and medical and educational rehabilitation, education, vocational guidance and counseling, specialists and parents training is based on current national and international experience, which is a result of successful collaboration between the hospital and universities, associations, foundations, etc. The scientific research is original and has contributed to solving a significant scientific, economic and social problem – the welfare of the Child with cerebral palsy and his family.
The project’s realization refers to the implementation of new for Bulgaria methodological approaches, which are adapted following the best practices in France and Germany. Thus, the research objective is to create a comprehensive two-dimensional model for children with cerebral palsy. The model includes improvement of professionalism in the field and adaptation of modern forms of communication with children with specific needs and in this way creating conditions for sustainable implementation and its multiplication in the work of a number of organizations in the country (day centers, community support, NGOs, etc.)
The project is multidisciplinary and includes various specialists (psychologists, teachers, special education teachers, social workers, speech therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists) and places the parents of children with cerebral palsy in the role of (supporting ) partners.
Some of the results at the end of the first stage:
- “Dolto’s days in Bulgaria” with participation of well known French psychoanalysts – Miriam Szejer, Claude Schauder, Anna и Nazir Hamad, Georgy Katzarov has been organized;

- multi-sensor room has been created and educational program for the hospital staff has been carried out;
- apprenticeships;
- develop the ideas for “La Maison Verte” in the Hospital and Dolto’s ideas has been propagate;
- a special meta-language has been developed and training programs for non-verbal children and their parents are underway.
