The BA program in European Studies was started at Sofia University in 1999. Its curriculum is consistent with the educational experience and traditions of eminent foreign universities, and at the same time it is in accordance with the Bulgarian requirements, traditions in education and the public demand for training such specialists.
The public necessity to educate experts in European studies and the success of similar programs in European universities has proved the importance of this discipline.
The BA program in European studies at SU develops students’ systematic knowledge as well as social and managerial competence to participate effectively in the process of European integration. The program can be considered an applied synthesis of sociology and public administration in the field of European international relations. The EU is built on mutually acceptable economic principles and common non-contradictory legal framework (acqius communautaire), that is why the European Studies program includes economic and law courses.
The BA curriculum encompasses a wide range of compulsory and elective courses, selected and arranged in such a way as to offer students profound general knowledge and legal orientation, excellent language and communication skills and a chance to specialize in the major tendencies of European integration process. BA graduates in European studies have excellent opportunities for professional career in state administration as well as in international, political, public and civil organizations and institutions. They will carry out the dialogue between Bulgaria, Europe and the global world.
